IF TOMORROW COMES…..

This is a true incident that happened yesterday (18/2/12), around 8.15p.m in the heart of the Rockfort city. Let me not get into the details directly, as I feel that it would be nice to share all that took place yesterday.

After spending the daytime with friends at the industrial visit, I returned back home late noon. Being an amateur in taking nap, I decided to catch up with the half-way thro’ “If tomorrow comes” by Sidney Sheldon. It was evening & amma wanted me to get details about the electronic cum digital dictionaries for my brother, whoz at his 7th grade. I just logged into the leading sites running exclusively for business, got some catalogues along with all the technical specifications, for the pocket sized calculator shaped gadget, wondering how the life of kids have transformed.. My mind voice read, “Nan chinnavala iruntha kaalathula, calculator ah kooda kanla pathathu kedayaathu”.. Pushing aside all those thoughts, I took a note of some of the popular brands & models available and started off to the most famous electronic dealers in Trichy, along with my dad.
DEALER: “Gud evening . What can I do for u??”

And in about 15 mins, I just checked with the chota fun gadget, & left the place assuring him that I would turn back to buy it within a couple of days..

The distinguished areas of Trichirapalli, have got their own interconnections, through very narrow lanes. This way, there is one such very famous path that connects the well known commercial areas of Singarathope & N.S.B. Road.. (N.S.B.Road is named after the great Indian freedom fighter, Netaji Subhashchandra Bose & is often referred to as the Ranganathan Street of Trichy..,esp. on Saturday evenings) . True to its description, the N.S.B.Road accumulated in it around 1/3rd of the total population of the city at 8p.m. There are many eye-catching textile & glittering jewellery showrooms & appa and I were walking past them. There were some savories to be bought to consume for the forth-coming week.
N.S.B.Road is well known for its sharp contrast!!!! One can find a dozen of economically challenged (I never mention them as beggars), in front of showrooms that rain cats and dogs.. In front of a restaurant were a physically challenged man & his mom praying to lend some money. I just passed by them; entered into the restaurant & waited for appa to pack his order. Once when the bill was paid, we started to leave. As soon as I turned to look at the man, whom I saw before, I began fidgeting in fear……

I was dumbstruck to see him having fits. He laid in his mother’s lap and was struggling to get back to normal. Moreover, he too was suffering from diarrhea and I wasn’t able to think of what I could do to help them. I immediately asked my dad for keys, but unfortunately, we were on foot to have any. The man’s mother took a piece of iron and clamped it in his hands to make him feel better.

ME: “Appa, shall I call 108?? I am afraid”
DAD: “Not needed Vidhya. I too was of the same opinion. But as the lady took out the iron piece, I feel that he is encountering it regularly. Come lets move. Its already late.”
ME: “But still appa. I feel something wrong here. I can’t come leaving them alone”.

Although the place was crowded, there was hardly any to help the two. Instead many were staring at me and dad, and at our conversations.

And finally, I had to follow appa, with hard heart. My mind was with the old lady & her son. I felt guilty of myself for not being able to help them.

Many would have passed by, but I didnt feel like looking at any. All I had was an outrage on the people who were busy shopping; the selfish mob who never had a thought of thinking of the needy; the coterie of friends, who were busy planning for their hang up the next day & the youngsters, who spent their most valued time useless, under the cover of love, clinging to each other in the narrow seated bike worth 2 lakhs!!

On my way back, I decided to visit a temple nearby and pray for the two. I just went to my most favourite place in the temple, where there was a big portrait of Kanchi periva and goddess Akilandeshwari. With eyes inundated by tears, all I could do was just beg them to save the poor man. We then returned back home I narrated all that happened to my mom who had been my ultimate consoler all the time. With no other thought than the unpleasant evening of the day, I went to bed at midnight & soon fell asleep.

The next day began uninterestingly. I tried my level best but couldn’t get rid of them from my mind.. I just made up my mind that I should visit him in the evening to check out how he was. ( I didn’t tell this to dad, as he was out for shopping vegetables, needed for the week). When dad returned back, all of us sat for breakfast. Amma was asking me not to feel bad and that he would be fine.

Soon after breakfast, Appa came to me and said, “Vidhya, I have a news for u!!”
Being puzzled of his expressionless words, I decided that something worst had happened. I was prepared for everything and let him speak.
ME: “Sollungo pa.”
DAD: “Please smile a bit, coz, I am sure it would make u happy (and he smiles) “
And he continued….
“ I just went to find out how he is. He was there at the same place, having breakfast along with his mom. I enquired about him and his mom said that he is frequently suffering from fits and that he is fine now after having proper medication. She too added that, he is checked by a doctor from Srirangam, every month. I then took out some notes to support them for that instant of time!!”

On hearing such words from him, my happiness was beyond description!! I was reminded of the cute role played by PrakashRaj in RadhaMohan’s AbiyumNaanum ( a tamil remake of Father of the Bride). I just ran to him and gave him a big hug & cried again with a heart-felt thanks!!! Dad was at the highest position for me from then!!!  

If tomorrow comes, anything might happen!! Stay positive & do good!!!

FROM “AMMA NAN SKOOLUKKU POMATEN”…

Lol.. This was what many of the people at my neighborhood did, when I entered into the first day of my toughest LKG. Having enjoyed everything along with my mom till I turned 3, I felt it immensely miserable to meet strangers at that tender age. Of course, entering into such a wonderful skool is not that easy, I knew it now, but not then. Ever since then, I developed a passion towards reading, but not going to an institution for education. I had many weeklies and bimonthlies lined up, at that small store house, that we lived in, very close to the skool, to read.. Appa gets them for me, realizing my interests. Right from Chandamama till Tinkle, I managed to complete reading all those books within a day . Let me not deviate from, what I was about to exactly share with u. 😀 😀

I had always been a prankster and was popularly known as “Vepanthoppu Rani”, Vepanthoppu was the name of the place, we moved to, in Dindigul initially. Me, being the only kid of the area, was ultimately the pet for all. Right from taking away the “Kalkandu”, and packing them up neatly in a daily sheet at Santhanam mama’s house till playing with the Veena strings of the houseowner, Narayani mami, I was constantly engaged. 🙂 I remember that I was the most liked kid for the gynecologist Dr.Amala Devi, who always called me “Vayadi”, the talkative girl and that she never called me by my name, till I left the town some 11 years later. My “Maama, amma pooti” which was a cry to unlock when my mom had no other go, to make me stay inside the house, is still popular. It was nostalgic to listen it from one such a neighbor, few days back.

.

Although I had an aversion towards going to skool, my pranks were endless. I just climbed up the stairs adjacent to the classroom, during class hours, when the teacher was busy with her portions and got caught red-handed by my principal!! 😀 I too remembered, inserting my head inside the student’s desk and it stuck inside! The look of that girl who sat next to me, when this happened, can never be forgotten .. Lol me.. Everyday, I cried as soon as I got ready for my school saying, “Amma nan skoolukku pomaten”. Being LKGians, we were offered the relaxation that our mothers could come to feed us the lunch! Once when amma dropped in, I eagerly ran towards her at the entrance as soon as the clock struck 12.30, ate those rasam sadham, kootu and greens as if I were a chamathu kid.. When the box became empty, amma was about to leave. I bid bye to her and asked her to get me chocolates for the evening snacks.. Mom smelt something fishy, on the way I behaved (chamatha eruntha santhegam 🙂 🙂 ).. Still she accepted to get me some, kissed my cheeks and left. When she was nearing the street where our house was, a lady stopped her abruptly and asked her to turn back (grhh… )!!! She was shocked to see me standing there with a notorious smile 😉 😉 This is how I was, hating to go to skool, all the time, ensuring that I don’t harm anyone by that!!
Days passed, months and even years passed, that the 3 year old had to step into a college after 12th grade. Whatsoever, the habit of crying to prevent myself from going to school had always been travelling with me, till this day 🙂 There had been instances when I missed my bus for this reason.. While the next day would begin for me, lamenting, since coll re-opens tomorrow and that I have to be there at the time at which I used to get up all these days, I would never forget to recite 😛 ,” Amma nan collegeku pomaten” … SLOKA CONTINUES….. 😉

prevent diabetes!! stay healthy!! -(reshared)

REDUCE PORTION SIZES
1.Less on Your Plate, Nate.
2.Keep meat, poultry and fish portions to about 3 ounces (about the size of a deck of cards).
3.Try not to snack while cooking or cleaning the kitchen.
4.Try to eat meals and snacks at regular times every day.
5.Make sure you eat breakfast everyday.
6.Use broth and cured meats (smoked turkey and turkey bacon) in small amounts. They are high in sodium. Low sodium broths are available in cans and in powdered form.
7.Share a single dessert.
8.When eating out, have a big vegetable salad, then split an entrée with a friend or have the other half wrapped to go.
9.Stir fry, broil, or bake with non-stick spray or low-sodium broth and cook with less oil and butter.
10.Drink a glass of water 10 minutes before your meal to take the edge off your hunger.
11.Make healthy choices at fast food restaurants. Try grilled chicken (remove skin) instead of a cheeseburger. Skip the french fries and choose a salad.
12.Listen to music while you eat instead of watching TV (people tend to eat more while watching TV).
13.Eat slowly. It takes 20 minutes for your stomach to send a signal to your brain that you’re full.
14.Eat a small meal, Lucille.
15.Teaspoons, salad forks, or child-size utensils may help you take smaller bites and eat less.
16.You don’t have to cut out the foods you love to eat. Just cut down on your portion size and eat it less often.
17.Make less food look like more by serving your meal on a salad or breakfast plate.

MOVE MORE EACH DAY
1.Dance It Away, Faye.
2.Show your kids the dances you used to do when you were their age.
3.Turn up the music and jam while doing household chores.
4.Deliver a message in person to a co-worker instead of e-mailing.
5.Take the stairs to your office. Or take the stairs as far as you can, and then take the elevator the rest of the way.
6.Make fewer phone calls. Catch up with friends on a regular basis during a planned walk.
7.March in place while you watch TV.
8.Park as far away as possible from your favorite store at the mall.
9.Select a physical activity video from the store or library.
10.Get off of the bus one stop early and walk the rest of the way home or to work several times a week.

MAKE HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES

1.Snack on a Veggie, Reggie
2.Try getting one new fruit or vegetable every time you grocery shop.
3.Low-fat macaroni and cheese can be a main dish. Serve it with your favorite vegetable and a salad.
4.Try eating foods from other countries. Many dishes contain more vegetables, whole grains and beans and less meat.
5.Cook with a mix of spices instead of salt.
6.Find a water bottle you really like (from a church or club event, favorite sports team, etc.) and drink water from it wherever and whenever you can.
7.Always keep a healthy snack with you, such as fresh fruit, handful of nuts, whole grain crackers.
8.Choose veggie toppings like spinach, broccoli, and peppers for your pizza.
9.Try different recipes for baking or broiling meat, chicken and fish.
10.Try to choose foods with little or no added sugar.
11.Gradually work your way down from whole milk to 2% milk until you’re drinking and cooking with fat-free (skim) or low-fat milk and milk products.
12.Eat foods made from whole-grains—such as whole wheat, brown rice, oats, and whole-grain corn—every day. Use whole-grain bread for toast and sandwiches; substitute brown rice for white rice for home-cooked meals and when dining out.
13.Don’t grocery shop on an empty stomach. Make a list before you go to the store.
14.Read food labels. Choose foods low in saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, salt (sodium), and added sugars.
15.Fruits are colorful and make a welcome centerpiece for any table. Enjoy the company of family and friends while sharing a bowl of fruit.
16.Slow down at snack time. Eating a bag of low-fat popcorn takes longer than eating a slice of cake. Peel and eat an orange instead of drinking orange juice.
17.Try keeping a written record of what you eat for a week. It can help you see when you tend to overeat or eat foods high in fat or calories.

NURTURE YOUR MIND, BODY AND SOUL

1.You Can Exhale, Gail.
2.Don’t try to change your entire way of eating and increasing your physical activity all at once. Try one new activity or food a week.
3.Find mellow ways to relax—try deep breathing, take an easy paced walk, or enjoy your favorite easy listening music.
4.Give yourself daily “pampering time.” Honor this time, whether it’s reading a book, taking a long bath, or meditating.
5.Try not to eat out of boredom or frustration. If you are not hungry, do something else, such as taking a long walk.

BE CREATIVE

1.Honor your health as your most precious gift.
2.Make up your own, Tyrone or Simone.

There are many more ways to prevent or delay diabetes by making healthy food choices and moving more. Discover your own and share them with your family, friends, and neighbors.

thread and needle!!! my hobby :)

I always have had a passion towards arts and craft!! It keeps me engaged all time and has proved to be advantageous in many ways, right from staying awake during the boring lectures till staying away while parents begin to “praise”!!! 😛 😉 I would honestly not say that it was a thirst from childhood or blah blah blahs.. It was lit up by my periamma (aunt) who is an expert and a professional, and who acquired the skills on her own!! Although the path was laid, I didn’t give a serious thought to take it up even as my hobby until my bro’ cried for a help to complete his craft projects that his school teacher gave him as a consideration for internals!! (Obviously guys don’t like to get involved in these stuff, and internals is that big word that makes everyone of us go mad!! :P) Thus began the journey. My first assignment was to make a glittering ball!! I was just pondering over as to what the damn task was, for the first few days.. As always, I didn’t do it for him, as I was waiting for the brightest gal of his class (aka aako 😉 😛 :D) to finish it for two main reasons:
1. I would get to know what that bloody ball is about and
2. I could incorporate my creativity in it ( I do the same even for my assignments, so that I can give them a better finish than my classmates 😀 )
As expected, that wanna be the great, told this little creature, the procedure for getting the ball done!! This was the way things were accomplished!! Although a bit easy, I strived my level best to make it the best looking piece of all (perfection matters, I say!!! )
The next assignment work came on the subsequent week!! This time it was quite time consuming, and as my regular classes commenced, I found it a bit dragging!! It was a simple wall hanging, that has to be done with green and sandal flowers made of woolen thread!! That was my first experience with a “THREAD AND NEEDLE” (ps: the title of this post:P :P) While making flowers was a difficult task, joining them together was very easy!! With great interest (worked with an emergency lamp, when the inverter had died 😛 ) I was able to successfully complete his work and make him get good comments on so called “his own work” at class!! Whenever u realize your interests, it is the time factor, that plays an important role in deciding what to hold on and what to trash!! And now, I have got plans to try my hands on origamy and hand embroidery too!! My spl. thanks for such a super school ( one of the pioneers of education in Trichy, but still many of my friends, the great alumni, continue to give a dirty look, if I praise it!!) and also the crafts teacher, who has been the source of my hobby!! Although a very simple story of how things began, I mean each word of this post!! Time to conclude, as I know that u ppl would have lost your temper, for such a mokka post 😛 (pardon me if not so 😀 :D), this post is specially dedicated for all those who feel that 24 hours a day is insufficient, and those who feel them to be the hyper-busy people of this world!(coz, I too was of the same nature before!! Honestly) Apart from all the official and family works, one can still find plenty of time left behind, which can be spent only for him/her own self!!Discover ur interests, mix them with ur talents and evolve them as a wonderful product!! Success is all yours!! Knit.. knit… knit… 😀 😀 😀

HOW TO DETECT A 2-WAY MIRROR?

When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., How many of you know for sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror I.e., they can see you, but you can’t see them. There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms or bathroom or bedrooms.

It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by just looking at it. So, how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of Mirror we are looking at?

CONDUCT THIS SIMPLE TEST:

Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your fingernail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror.

However, if your fingernail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then BEWARE, IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR! (There may be someone seeing you from the other side). So remember, every time you see a mirror, do the “fingernail test.” It doesn’t cost you anything. It is simple to do.

This is a really good thing to do. The reason there is a gap on a real mirror, is because the silver is on the back of the mirror UNDER the glass.

Whereas with a two-way mirror, the silver is on the surface. Keep it in mind! Make sure and check every time you enter in hotel rooms.

Share this with your sisters, wife, daughters, friends, colleagues, etc.

THE DATE!!!

After 21 years of Marriage, my Wife wanted me to take another Woman out to Dinner and a Movie.
She said I Love You but I know this other Woman loves you and would Love to spend some Time with You.
The other Woman that my Wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER ,
who has been a Widow for 19 years,
but the demands of my Work and my three Children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.
That night I called to Invite her to go out for Dinner and a Movie.
‘What’s wrong, are you well,’ she asked?
My Mother is the type of Woman who suspects that
a Late Night Call or a Surprise Invitation is a sign of Bad News.
‘I thought that it would be pleasant to be with you,’ I responded.
‘Just the two of us.’
She thought about it for a moment, and then said, ‘I would like that very much.’
That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit Nervous.
When I arrived at her House, I noticed that she too seemed to be Nervous about our Date.
She waited in the Door with her Coat on.
She had Curled her Hair and was wearing the Dress that she had worn to Celebrate her last Wedding Anniversary.
She smiled from a face that was as Radiant as an Angel’s.
‘I told my Friends that I was going to go out with My Son, and they were impressed, ‘
She said, as she got into the Car.
‘They can’t wait to hear about our meeting’.
We went to a Restaurant that, although not Elegant, was very Nice and Cozy.
My Mother took my Arm as if She were the First Lady.
After we sat down, I had to read the Menu. Large Print.
Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me.
A Nostalgic Smile was on her Lips.
‘It was I who used to have to Read the Menu when you were Small,’
She said.
‘Then it’s Time that you Relax and let me Return the Favor,’
I responded.
During the Dinner, we had an Agreeable Conversation, nothing Extra-ordinary,
but catching up on recent Events of each others Life.
We talked so much that we missed the Movie.
As we arrived at her House later,
She said, ‘I’ll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you.’
I agreed.
‘How was your Dinner Date?’ asked My Wife when I got Home.
‘Very Nice. Much more so than I could have Imagined,’ I answered.
A few days later, my Mother died of a Massive Heart Attack.
It happened so suddenly that I didn’t have Time to do anything for her.
Some time later, I received an Envelope with a Copy of a Restaurant Receipt
from the same place Mother and I had dined.
An Attached Note Said:
‘I paid this Bill in Advance.
I wasn’t sure that I could be there;
But nevertheless, I paid for Two Plates –
One for You and the Other for Your Wife.
You will never know what that Night meant for Me.
I Love You,
My Son.’
Nothing in Life is more important than God and your Family .
Give them the Time they Deserve, because these Things cannot be Put Off till ‘Some Other Time.’

True incident!!!

The incident was really shared by my friend who is currently working in reputed firm near OMR way

” This peace of information is useful for each and every one who travels by Bus ”

I am working in Chennai One (Thoraipakkam), Chennai. I usually travel by Metropolitan Transport Corporation(MTC) bus, from jain college stop (Which is near to my office) to tidel park and from Tidel park I will catch train, to home. MTC bus comes from kelambakkam(19B,21H) mostly wont stop in tidel park in early days. So I usually prefer to get into T51 bus, which will stop in tidel park stop. After some time 19B started stopping in tidel park also.

Today while returning from office at around 8.30 pm, I was in a hurry to catch my 9.28 pm train at Tidel park. I got up a bus(19B) in Jain College at around 8.45 pm, and asked the conductor to give a ticket for tidel park stop. He said, the bus wont stop there , and he asked me to get down at signal if it stops there or else get down at stop next to tidel park. I was arguging with him that I am going daily with the same bus and get down in the tidel park stop. But he was keep on saying the same thing. I got irritated with conductor response. Suddenly I remembered a complaint phone no.9884301013. I read in one bus sometime back and noted down in my mobile. I called that no. and said about the incident that conductor is not stopping in the usual stop.

The MTC representative (person at the other end) asked me to give the phone to the conductor. The conductor was not interested to talking with his official. The MTC rep. asked me the bus registration no. He enquired where is the bus at that time and I said it is in Kandhanchavadi. The MTC rep. said he will come in the line and talk to them. I was curious how he will come and catch the bus

After few mins. the wireless transmitter(to track the bus using GPS), near the driver in the bus started shouting :confused1: … Driver stop the bus. Driver stop the bus in the left side of the road. Driver was not sure what is happening may be his first experience, for others(including me) it is the real first experience. The driver stopped the bus and started listening to the transmeter. The MTC rep. enquired why the bus is not stopping in tidel park stop. The driver said he stops in tidel park stop and in the previous trip also he has done. The rep. asked him then why the conductor is saying like that . He asked the conductor what is the issue. The conductor was speechless . The driver somehow managed the situation and supported the conductor by saying that the conductor was new to this route. The driver asked excuse for the incident and said he will stop in the Tidel Park stop

The MTC rep. said he wanted to talk the passenger who called him. I went near the transmitter and spoke to the MTC rep. He said sorry for the incident happened and asked sorry on behalf of MTC. Everyone in the bus were surprised of things happening. I came back to my seat and I was so embarrassed as all were looking at me. Few passengers asked me what is the no. and whom I called. They also took the no. The bus stopped in Tidel Park stop then. After getting down I called the MTC rep. and said the bus stopped in the stopping.

It was a nice experience for me and others who travelled in the bus, including driver and conductor and I was very shocked after this incident. Yes, nowadays good things are happening in government sector also and technology is used properly.
